Project Summary
IKEA has been collaborating for years with Cree Lighting for the outdoor lighting of its stores. In the recent past, Cree Lighting in fact carried out the lighting project of the IKEA complex in San Giuliano Milanese (Milan), obtaining excellent results, with over 65% energy savings (equal to 100 kW on an annual basis) and that of Wembley in the United Kingdom, with over 600 appliances installed for a total energy saving of around 80% and a return on investment of less than 3 years.
IKEA has launched a new challenge to Cree Lighting, getting involved in the important lighting project of the store in Pisa, the first in Italy to be fully illuminated with LEDs. The store, inaugurated last March, is the second largest in Tuscany (about 33,600 square meters) after the one in Sesto Fiorentino (FI).
For the new store, IKEA and Cree Lighting technicians worked closely together to develop a complete outdoor lighting project for the first time, with the aim of responding to specific requirements which included guaranteeing efficient, uniform, and comfortable lighting for customers, enhancing the distinctive signs of the brand and ensuring a reduced environmental impact for the entire complex, in line with IKEA's corporate philosophy.
In addition to the outdoor parking areas, Cree Lighting responded to two specific customer needs. Firstly, the lighting of the external pedestrian corridors and the entrance
canopy, required the creation of customized luminaires that would integrate perfectly with the store design from an aesthetic point of view. The second request from IKEA referred to the need to adequately enhance the distinctive symbols of the brand.
This led to a careful study of the lighting of the sign on the facade of the store, to ensure maximum enhancement and accuracy of the corporate colors. The same attention was paid to the lighting of the flags placed at the entrance, which led a the choice of luminaires with an upwards light beam emission, evoking a feeling of dynamism.
For the first time, Cree Lighting has designed the lighting of different areas of the IKEA store, such as the pedestrian access corridors and the canopies of the trolley area.
For the corridors, Cree Lighting installed the Ledway Road luminaires at a height of 5 meters with a spacing of 15 meters; the color temperature chosen and the efficiency of the LED light avoids shadow cones and dark areas, and makes the area absolutely comfortable while offering an important perception of safety for customers.
For the shelter located at the entrance to the store, Cree Lighting customized 46 304 series luminaires, creating a special white frame that integrates perfectly with the rest of the structure and at the same time guarantees perfect light output.
THE BRAND SIGNAGE WHICH IS EASILY RECOGNIZABLE DURING THE DAY, NOW ENJOYS OPTIMAL NIGHTIME VISIBILITY, A FUNDAMENTAL REQUISITE FOR SALES OUTLETS THAT ARE USUALLY LOCATED IN LARGE COMMERCIAL AREAS, ADJACENT TO HIGHWAYS.
